The primary goal of this course is to provide hands on experience in carrying out basic molecular biology/genetics protocols. Proper manipulation of nucleic acids (DNA, RNA) precedes sophisticated in-depth analyses such as genome sequencing, qPCR or cloning etc.

At the conclusion of this course the student will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate proficient library and computer skills in data gathering and analysis
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of the basic principles of nucleic acid biochemistry
  3. Carry out basic molecular biology protocols in order to analyze DNA and RNA
  4. Navigate and apply diverse, modern genetic databases and software
  5. Learn to work and cooperate as part of a team
