Dr. Alexia Georgakopoulos

Alexia Georgakopoulos, Ph.D., is a Professor in the Department of Conflict Studies at Nova Southeastern University, which is one of the longest standing premier graduate programs in Conflict Resolution in the nation. She is the Director of the Institute of Conflict Resolution & Communication (www.ICRCtraining.com), a conflict resolution training and consulting firm that specializes in delivering Florida Supreme Court Mediation Certification Programs in Circuit, Family, and County Mediation. She was featured on NBC’s Today Show to discuss peace in a diverse world and she is the editor of The Mediation Handbook: Theory, Research and Practice, by Routledge Publishing.

As the Former Director of the Common Ground Film Festival at NSU for over 8 years, Dr. Georgakopoulos will cover the power film in teaching the ethos, logos, and pathos involving Human Rights. The session will cover examples of trailers and vignettes of compelling films including documentaries, Hollywood award winning movies, media/news interviews, and documentaries that will give people the visceral experience of why Human Rights should be everyone's concern. The purpose of the session is to encourage people to take agency as they embrace the concepts of global citizenship and moral circle beyond their borders.
