Q: Library Access: Is the Alvin Sherman Library open?
A:The Alvin Sherman Library is open to NSU students, faculty and staff and the public.

It is mandatory to wear a face covering when on the Nova Southeastern University campus and it will be required to enter the Sherman Library. A face covering must be worn at all times while in the building.

Alvin Sherman Library Building Hours

Monday – Friday : 7:00 am – 10:00 pm


Saturday: 10:00 am – 6:00 pm


Sunday:  11:00 am – 7:00 pm

The library’s online services remain available. We currently offer 60 hours of live virtual references services and a variety of online programming for children and adults.

 

Q: When can the public access the Alvin Sherman Library?

A: The Alvin Sherman Library is open to the public effective November 2, 2020. The library’s online services remain available to the public. Q: Ask a Librarian: How do I contact a librarian for help using the library?  

A: Librarians offer live virtual reference daily. Visit our Ask a Librarian webpage for contact information and hours.

 

Q: Library Resources: Do I still have access to library materials?

A: The library offers an extensive collection of online databases for scholarly research, e-books, streaming video, newspapers, and more. Visit our online resources guide for details.

 

Q: Youth Services: Does the library offer educational resources for children and teens?

A: Yes, visit our Learn At Home library guide for more information.

 

Q: Borrowing Materials: Can I check out or return library materials? 

A:  NSU students faculty and staff and the public (with an Alvin Sherman Library Public Card)  can check out physical library materials. Public users with an Alvin Sherman Library card can continue to access online resources that are available. The book drops located in the traffic circle north of the Library are open as well as the one on the exterior wall at the entrance to the library. The book drop at the Circulation Desk is closed.

 

Q: Fines: Will there be late fees for overdue library materials?

A: Overdue fines are being waived until further notice. For more information, please email lritccirc@nova.edu.

 

Q: Holds: Can I place and pick up a hold? 

A: At this time all library users can place a request for materials online or while in the library. Hold service for public patrons is unavailable until further notice.

 

Q: Library Cards: How do I sign up for an Alvin Sherman Library card? What do I do if I have a card but cannot find it?

A: Public patrons that live, work, or go to school in Broward County may apply online for an Alvin Sherman Library Card or e-Card for remote access to select online databases. (For a physical library card, select the “express card” option, complete the online application, and visit the Circulation Desk on the first floor to pick up the card.) If you already have a card but cannot find it, please contact the Circulation Department at lritccirc@nova.edu for further assistance.

 

Q: Course Reserves: My professor placed a book on reserve. Is it still available to check out?  

A: Online course reserves remain available. Print materials are on reserve at the Circulation Desk and can be checked out with a Shark ID.

 

Q: Document Delivery / ILLiad: How do I order library materials? 

A:  Library users can make requests through ILLiad.  Article and book chapter requests will be delivered electronically and books may be placed at the Circulation desk for pickup or mailed (TBD at time of request).

 

Q: ILL: How do I return or renew ILL materials?

A:  To renew ILL material that will soon become overdue, please submit a renewal request via ILLiad (if possible, if the item is not past due) or send an email to ill@nova.edu. ILL material may be returned to the book drops located in the traffic circle north of the Sherman Library as well as the book drop on the exterior wall at the entrance to the Sherman Library. Due to the COVID-19 crisis, there will be no late fees assessed during this time period.

 

Q: Regional Campus Book Drop: Can I return my library materials at an NSU Regional Campus?

A: The NSU regional campuses are now open. Please contact staff at your NSU regional campus for more information on dropping off books in person so that they can be returned to the main campus for you.

 If you are completing your Fall 2020 courses fully online, please e-mail RegionalStudentAffairs@nova.edu  to arrange for alternative return shipment.

If you would like to keep your library book longer, please email Document Delivery at library@nova.edu.

 

Q: Log-in: My library log-in is not working. How can I access my account or databases? 

A: Please report log-in issues using our online form

 

Q: WCC: Is the NSU Writing and Communication Center (WCC) open?

A: The WCC is currently operating entirely online. Visit the WCC website for details.

 

Q: Canvas: I’m experiencing technical issues with my NSU Canvas course. Who should I contact for help?

A: Please contact NSU’s Help Desk by phone 954-262-4357 (HELP) or email help@nova.edu.

 

Q: Study Rooms: Can I still reserve or use a study room? 

A: Study Rooms are available first come, first served. Reservations cannot be made online. Study rooms can only be checked out at the Circulation Desk in person. All study rooms are for one person use only. Adherence to this policy is mandatory. Violations may result to removal from study room, and/or suspension of study room use, and/or report to the appropriate Dean (for NSU patrons).

 

Q: Lost-and-Found: I think I left something in the library. Who should I contact?

A: Please contact the NSU Public Safety Lost and Found center at 954-262-8999 for assistance.
