Dr. Mary Hope Schwoebel

Mary Hope Schwoebel, Ph.D., is Associate Professor in the Department of Conflict Studies. Previously she was Senior Program Officer at the US Institute of Peace where she designed and managed dialogues and training in South and Central Asia, the Middle East, South America, Africa, the Pacific and the Caribbean. She has consulted for USAID, State Department, the UN Development Program, the InterAmerican Development Bank, and numerous NGOs, in the areas of governance, peacebuilding, state building, natural disaster management, and international development, and has taught peace and conflict studies, international politics, international development, and foreign policy. She worked in the Horn of Africa for six years managing international development and humanitarian assistance programs for UNICEF, USAID and Catholic Relief Services and in South America for five years for Peace Corps. She has published numerous book chapters, articles, editorials and encyclopedia entries and edited a Special Issue for the Journal of Peacebuilding and Development.
