PHIL 3360 - Environmental Ethics

The Biopolitics International Organisation (B.I.O.) is an non-profit, non-governmental organisation, founded in Athens, in 1985. Over the course of its history, B.I.O. has been promoting a shift from an anthropocentric to a biocentric system of values in society, in order to curb environmental destruction and place appreciation of the environment at the core of every human endeavour.

Environmental Justice is the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race, color, national origin, or income with respect to the development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations, and policies. EPA has this goal for all communities and persons across this Nation. It will be achieved when everyone enjoys the same degree of protection from environmental and health hazards and equal access to the decision-making process to have a healthy environment in which to live, learn, and work.

Ethics CORE (Collaborative Online Resource Environment) provides access to resources related to ethics in science, social science, mathematics, and engineering. Ethics CORE services provide access to the research literature, tools for the development of Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR), and support for scholarship and pedagogy. Funded by National Science Foundation Grant SES-1045412.

The Ethics Education Library, seeks to help connect people interested in developing new and interesting ethics training methods and programs, to disseminate best practices and tools that have already been developed, and to ultimately foster the creation of new methods and programs for teaching students about ethical issues inherent in research and practice. We work closely with the staff of the Online Ethics Center of the National Academy of Engineering in the development of this resource.

Environmental philosophy is a complex subject, but clear debate around deep ecology, social ecology, eco-feminism, earth-centered spirituality, ecopsychology, ethics and similar topics are crucial for our global future. The Oxford Uehiro Centre for Practical Ethics was established in 2003 with the generous support of the Uehiro Foundation on Ethics and Education of Japan. It is an integral part of the philosophy faculty of Oxford University, one of the great centres of academic excellence in philosophical ethics. This short course introduces the key features of environment ethics for an audience without a background in ethics. It is written specifically to help students - from high school to adult learners -- to recognize and use moral language to describe how they value the earth.

The USGS works in cooperation with local, State, and Federal agencies to collect water-use information, then compiles these data to produce water-use information aggregated at the county, state, and national levels. Every five years, data at the county level are compiled into a national water-use data system and State-level data are published in a national circular, Estimated Use of Water in the United States.
