How to Germinate Seeds

What is seed germination?

Germination is the process by which a plant grows from a seed to a seedling. Seeds will remain dormant until the external conditions are favorable for germination. These conditions often include water, oxygen, temperature, and sunlight.

How do I germinate seeds?

The methods and conditions necessary to germinate seeds often depend on the seed itself because different seeds require different conditions. However, the general process is outlined below.

1. Place the seeds on a wet paper towel or in seed starting soil mix.

2. Cover the seeds with a plastic wrap or lid to create a greenhouse effect.

3. Place the seeds in a warm location and keep the paper towel or soil moist.

4. Once the seeds sprout and you see roots, plant the seedling into a pot.

5. Watch your plants grow :)
