Interprofessional Education at Nova Southeastern University

The Health Professions Division at Nova Southeastern University is innovatively designed to support and encourage an interprofessional environment for both students and faculty. With the Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine, Nursing, Health Care Sciences, Optometry, and Pharmacy all conveniently located in the same building, students have an increased opportunity to learn with, from, and about other professions other than their own. 

In 2010, the NSU College of Osteopathic Medicine received a $2.3 million federal grant to train medical students, as well as other health professionals, to better serve rural and underserved communities through the concepts of working on interprofessional teams. The goal of the interprofessional education initiative is to implement a program to develop interprofessional leaders who link public health training to community-oriented primary care practice.  The program focuses on community-oriented care, cultural competency, and team-based skills for a changing health care system in the 21st century.
