Interprofessional Professionalism Behaviors

Please see the link below for a listing of the behaviors represented by health care providers as part of an interprofessional team.

Interprofessional Education at Nova Southeastern University

"Team-based health care is clearly an important part of the change we are going to have to make to improve the quality of our health care system, and the Interprofessional Education Collaborative's efforts are a major step forward in making that change - this is an important initiative for the future of the patients we all serve."

- Stephen C. Shannon, D.O., M.P.H., President and Chief Executive Officer American Association of Colleges of Ostepathic Medicine

The Health Professions Division at Nova Southeastern University is innovatively designed to support and encourage an interprofessional environment for both students and faculty. With the Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine, Nursing, Health Care Sciences, Optometry, and Pharmacy all conveniently located in the same building, students have an increased opportunity to learn with, from, and about other professions other than their own.

In 2010, the NSU College of Osteopathic Medicine received a $2.3 million federal grant to train medical students, as well as other health professionals, to better serve rural and underserved communities through the concepts of working on interprofessional teams. The goal of the interprofessional education initiative is to implement a program to develop interprofessional leaders who link public health training to community-oriented primary care practice.  The program focuses on community-oriented care, cultural competency, and team-based skills for a changing health care system in the 21st century.
