ORCID, Inc. aims to solve the author/contributor name ambiguity problem in scholarly communications by creating a central registry of unique identifiers for individual researchers and an open and transparent linking mechanism between ORCID and other current author ID schemes.

In an age of continually growing digitization, globalization, and abundant information, the value of academic libraries is greater than ever before. College and university libraries remain central to research and education as they ensure information access, foster innovation, encourage collaborative research, and promote information literacy skills vital to the success of tomorrow’s leaders.

Academic library collections (both print and electronic) and library services provide value in many ways, including value to research, teaching, and student development. Return on investment (ROI) is one way to quantify the value of the library. This study examines the ROI of the library in one functional area ROI in all stages of the grants process.

Return on investment (ROI) is one method of measuring the value of a library's e-journal collection. In an international study designed to test an ROI formula developed as a case study at the University of Illinois, ROI of the value of e-journals to grants income was found to vary depending on the mission and subject emphasis of the institution. Faculty members report that e-journals have transformed the way they do research, including making them more productive and competitive.

This paper examines the campus environment for
grant-seeking, and suggests a model of service whereby
academic libraries can become involved in an increasingly
valuable area of university work: grantsmanship.

The following review and report is intended to provide Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) leaders and the academic community with 1) a clear view of the current state of the literature on value of libraries within an institutional context, 2) suggestions for immediate “Next Steps” in the demonstration of academic library value, and 3) a “Research Agenda” for articulating academic library value.
