Where to Submit Your Writing: Journals Publishing Student Work

[Click on the IHI logo above] Here you’ll find a list of peer-reviewed journals and online publications that publish student work on a variety of topics, including quality improvement.  We started with student-run journals, which offer the best chance of publication, and continue with second-tier and top-tier journals, which accept only a fraction of the articles submitted for publication.

Student-Run Journals

As student-run journals, these publications are a good place to target in publishing your work. In addition to these, your school may have its own student-run publication.

Second-Tier Journals

These journals are an excellent resource for those trying to expand their writing abilities and to help writers identify with the work that journals are hoping to publish. Student submissions do not go unrecognized.

Top-Tier Journals

These journals are some of the most prestigious in health care, and sometimes publish work about quality improvement. While it would be difficult for students to publish their work here, it may be helpful to read these publications as you’re learning to write and publish.
