Welcome to Halmos Thesis & Dissertation Submission Guide

This guide is designed to help you find all the information you will need when formatting and submitting your thesis, dissertation, or capstone to NSUWorks.

This guide contains instruction for Formatting (for DoMES & DoBS), and instructions for Submitting and Ordering Printed Copies of your thesis, dissertation, or capstone (for all HCAS departments).

The Final Submission Process - FAQs

The final submission process for your thesis or dissertation begins after you have defended your thesis or dissertation.  Your final and approved Capstone, Thesis, or Dissertation must be submitted to the NSU Oceanographic Campus Library staff via NSUWorks before the NSU Halmos College of Arts & Sciences will confer your degree.

Here are some frequently asked questions about the final submission process.

How long do I have to submit my final thesis or dissertation to NSUWorks?

Your 30 day time clock for submission begins on the last day of the term that you defended in.  Please note this is not business days, but includes holidays and weekends.

Capstones/theses/dissertations with major content revisions after the oral defense will be required to register for an additional term.

What happens after I submit my thesis or dissertation to NSUWorks?  Am I done?

You are not necessarily done when you upload the initial submission of your thesis or dissertation to NSUWorks. Oceanographic Campus Librarians will collect the final electronic signatures from your committee members. The capstones, theses, and dissertations from the Department of Marine and Environmental Sciences and the Department of Biological Sciences will be checked for format by an Oceanographic Campus Librarian. If any formatting revisions are needed, the librarian will email you with the details.

Once all committee members have signed off and all formatting revisions are made, a librarian will inform your respective program office that you have fulfilled all library requirements for conferral.

How long do I have to submit my formatting revisions?

Degrees are conferred at the end of each month, but it is at the discretion of the program office how long your revision process can last. If you do not complete your formatting revisions in a timely manner, you could be removed from the program.

How do I submit the final product of my thesis or dissertation to NSUWorks?

This is the link to the NSUWorks Portal where you can submit your final product:

https://nsuworks.nova.edu/cgi/ir_submit.cgi?context=hcas_etd_all

The link to the NSUWorks portal can also be found on several pages in this libguide. The link will take you to the NSUWorks login page.  After you log in, complete the submission form with all the appropriate information.  View the Submitting to NSUWorks tab for common mistakes to avoid when filling out the submission form.  After you submit this form, an Oceanographic Campus librarian will be notified.

Do I need to create an NSUWorks account in order to submit my thesis, dissertation, or capstone?

Yes! You can create your NSUWorks account at any time, even before you are ready to submit your final manuscript. If you have not already created an NSUWorks account for a previous course or assignment, you can do so here: https://nsuworks.nova.edu/cgi/myaccount.cgi?context=

I have questions about the thesis or capstone, or Masters in Marine Science graduation requirements.

We recommend reviewing the most recent HCAS Course Catalog at: https://hcas.nova.edu/current-students/index.html.  If your questions are about formatting your final paper, reach out to the Oceanographic Campus Library. If you have questions about anything else, contact the program office.

I am a committee member with questions about the capstone/thesis/dissertation process.

Capstone/thesis/dissertation committee members can find additional information about the capstone/thesis/ or dissertation process on the tab labeled Information for Committee Members
