Google Scholar Basics

Learn how to use Google Scholar to find full-text articles, complete known query searches, and compare and contrast to library databases.

Library Databases vs. Google Scholar

There are, however, some features library databases have that Google Scholar does not have. Those include:

  • limit search to ONLY peer reviewed articles
  • limit search to specific parameters
  • search specific subject areas for more precise results
  • easily sort by type of material (scholarly journal, magazine, newspaper, etc.)

Most importantly, library databases give you direct access to the full text of articles!
