About LLI

The Nova Southeastern University (NSU) Lifelong Learning Institute (LLI) was established in 1977 as part of the mission of NSU to provide education spanning a lifetime, from preschool to older-adult education. The LLI program has changed and adapted throughout its history but always provided a special, inviting environment that offers educational lectures and social opportunities to connect with other like-minded individuals. LLI membership is open to all adults with a love of learning.

What types of courses and activities does LLI offer?
Membership to LLI includes a mix of lectures, short-term courses, social gatherings, special programs, and field trips.

Many members enjoy the unique intergenerational learning experience of auditing classes at the university.  This added benefit connects LLI members with NSU students and faculty.  NSU Course Wizard.

When do LLI classes and programs take place?
The 2024-25 LLI academic calendar runs from September through May. The schedule varies, but classes are offered Monday through Friday. View our events calendar with upcoming classes and programs.

What does LLI membership cost?
LLI membership fees are designed to cover the direct costs of running classes and programs. A fee schedule is listed on our membership page.

Parking decals are included with Standard and Premium membership levels.  Parking is available in the parking garage adjacent to the Alvin Sherman Library.  Without the parking decal, the fee for parking is $1/hour.

Where do LLI classes meet?
Most classes and programs are presented at the Alvin Sherman Library - 3100 Ray Ferrero Jr. Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, FL  33314 or at other locations on the main campus of Nova Southeastern University.  In some cases, classes are at partner sites across Broward County.

Are classes or programs ever canceled?
Every effort is made to hold all LLI classes scheduled. However, a minimum enrollment is set for most classes, and a class/program will be canceled if the minimum enrollment is not met.

Are there homework assignments, tests, grades, and other requirements?
LLI courses require no prerequisites, grades, or exams. Some instructors may suggest reading certain texts and other materials for participants to gain full benefit from the class experience.

As a member, how will I receive communication about LLI classes and events?
LLI communicates to its members online through the LLI website and by email to include:

  • LLI monthly newsletters

  • Information about key dates, important member updates, and invites to special programs

  • Member surveys
