Juneteenth

What is Juneteenth?

 It commemorates June 19^th, 1865, when the abolition of slavery was announced in Galveston, Texas, by General Granger of the Union Army. This signaled freedom for enslaved African Americans in Texas, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation issued by President Abraham Lincoln.
