H

Handbook

A resource that provides concise information on a specific subject.

Hard Copy

Physical, printed material.

Hold

A library service that enables users to request that unavailable material be held for them once it becomes available again. Holds are kept at the Circulation Desk for pickup for a limited period time.

Holdings

All materials (e.g., print, non-print, electronic, etc.) owned or "held" by a library.

HTML

An abbreviation for Hypertext Markup Language. A coding language used to create webpages.

HTML Document

A document intended to be viewed electronically.

HTTP

An abbreviation for Hypertext Transfer Protocol. An application protocol that enables hypertext to be transmitted across the Internet.

Hyperlink

A website URL that is encoded with a link that takes the user to the linked resource when clicked. Example: http://sherman.library.nova.edu

Hypermedia

A multimedia source that is encoded with a link that takes the user to the linked resource when clicked.

Hypertext

Electronic text or image that is encoded with a link that takes the user to the linked resource when clicked. Example: Library
