How to access and use the library's databases to find articles

What is a Database?

College assignments will require you to find sources for your assignments from academic journal publications. NSU Libraries provide access to hundreds of library databases on a variety of subjects.

Library databases allow us to search for information like articles, abstracts, ebooks, and reports. Most databases are specific to a subject or discipline, and allow us to be incredibly specific in our search by using keywords and Boolean operators or other advanced search queries. As large language models improve some databases are incorporating natural language processing, usually referred to as an AI assistant.

Library databases allow us to:

  • easily access full text
  • easily use limiters (like peer-reviewed and date range)
  • easily limit to specific source types (book chapters, articles, reports)
