The Mummy's Curse - Illustrated Lecture

Dr. Stephen Thompson, an Egyptologist and administrator at University School, will delve into the intriguing world of mummification and mummies. He'll explore the myths and realities of mummies' curses and discuss how these historical interpretations reflect societal issues. This promises to be an enlightening discussion, shedding light on ancient practices and their impact on modern understanding.
Stephen E. Thompson received a BA in Near Eastern Studies from Brigham Young University and an AM and PhD in Egyptology from Brown University, where he focused on the study of Egyptian religious texts.  He has taught at Brown University, Boston University, Rhode Island College, Brigham Young University, and Florida Atlantic University.  He has published numerous articles in professional journals and reference works.  For the past twenty-seven years he has worked in secondary education as a teacher and administrator.  He is the currently associate director of student life in the Upper School at NSU University School.  He is working on preparing for publication a Ptolemaic era papyrus copy of the Book of the Dead owned by Brown University.
Dr. Thompson is teaching a course, "Ancient Egyptian Religion and Magic," in the Winter 2025 semester at the Farquhar Honors College.
