This guide was assembled to supplement NSAM 5004: Border Security. The guide brings together library resources that will help students complete the objectives of the course. Also included are links to resources that will further enhance students understanding of national security issues.
Course Description:
This course is an in-depth analysis of the importance and the difficulties in security measures and tactics used to protect a sovereign nation's borders. Border protection is an essential part of National Security. The threats to domestic populations include drug-smuggling, terrorism, human and arms trafficking, and illegal immigration. Theoretical and applied case studies will facilitate student engagement. The course will serve as an introduction to the theories and applied practices of successful border protection.
Learning Outcomes:
Students will be able to: 1. Identify the various methods of securing a nation's borders. 2. Analyze the countermeasures designed to locate and consolidate intrusive border infractions. 3. Successfully participate in group analyses of case studies assessing threat levels and offering remedies to those respective threats. 4. Analyze patterns of intrusion and respond to various methods of intrusion.
