  • Hours of operation: 9am – 5pm; Monday – Friday
  • Only current NSU Shark or Alvin Sherman Library cardholders are eligible to submit requests.
  • First-come, first-served. Book through the library appointment system.
  • The 3D scanner and computer station are for Library staff use only. Only designated Library staff will have hands-on access to operate and submit content to the 3D printers.
  • Violation of the rules, responsibilities, and agreements set forth in these policies, may result in disciplinary action. At the discretion of the library staff, loss of library privileges for violation of these policies may occur. Severe violations of university-wide policies may result in disciplinary actions from the Library, University, or legal action as defined by those policies.
  • Use of the equipment is for educational, non-commercial purposes only. Mass production of objects is prohibited.

3D Printing Policy

  • The Library’s 3D printer may only be used for lawful purposes.  Patrons will not be permitted to use the Library’s 3D printer to create material that is:
    • Prohibited by local, state, or federal law.
    • Unsafe, harmful, dangerous or poses an immediate threat to the well-being of others.
    • Obscene, containing vulgar language, or otherwise inappropriate for the Library environment.
    • In violation of another’s intellectual property rights.  For example, the printers may not be used to reproduce material that is subject to copyright, patent or trademark protection.
    • The Library reserves the right to refuse any 3D print request that does not comply with library policies.
  • 3D printing at the Library is currently free. It is anticipated that a fee will be charged in the future to cover the printing costs.
  • Patrons wanting to use the 3D printers must submit an approval form. Library staff will review the form and all files before printing.
  • Due to limited resources, a person can only print one print job per week.
  • Once approved, staff will add the model to the printing queue and patrons will be notified by email when their job is completed and ready to be picked up.
  • Print job times vary greatly due to many factors (size, complexity, design stability, print queue length), therefore the ASL Library cannot guarantee specific delivery times.
  • Items printed from the Library’s 3D printers that are not picked up within 7 days will become property of the Library.  Items must be picked up by the individual who printed them.
  • Only library-purchased filament is allowed to be used in the 3D Printer. Users may not supply their own filament.
  • ASL Library cannot guarantee model quality, stability, or the confidentiality of designs.
  • ASL Library staff are not responsible for removing a printed object's rafts and supports.
