PSY 4689 Sports Psychology

This guide provides access to library resources to support research of the psychological aspects of sports and exercise.

PSY 4689 Description

This course is designed to provide an overview of the psychological aspects of sport, exercise, and performance while offering didactic training on the provision of psychological interventions within athletic environments. Although the mental demands of non-sport “performance” situations will be discussed, the central emphasis of this course will be to draw from the research and expertise used with elite athletes. Topics will include: performance enhancement; group dynamics in sport; developmental and gender-related issues; exercise adherence; the psychological aspects of injury; unhealthy sport-related behaviors; and the role of the sport psychologist within an integrated and/or inter-disciplinary team.
