Violence Prevention and Intervention

Course Description

This course examines various theories of human aggression and violence, exploring their underlying assumptions about human nature and the causes of violence. Also included is an introduction to a range of violence intervention and prevention approaches developed for use at the interpersonal, intergroup, and societal level.

Learning Objectives: By the end of the course, you should: 1) Be acquainted with major psycho-social/cultural theories of violence and extreme aggression. 2) Know major concepts connected to violence and aggression. 3) Be acquainted with the different types of violence. 4) Be familiar with basic ideas on how to address violence in prevention and intervention. 5) Be able to analyze real life violent situations and contexts, using concepts from the psycho-social-cultural fields and the academic literature.
