Financial Ratios

Key resources for company ratios

Company ratios and additional financial information can be found in the following databases in our library collection. Below you will also find some strategies you can use to easily find ratios in our databases.

ABI/Inform Collection

Search tips:

  • Start by typing the company name in the first search box and selecting ‘Company/Organization – COMPANY” in the suggestions in the drop down field to the right. In the second search box, use all or any of the following keyword suggestions - ratios OR "financial ratios" OR "key ratios" OR "accounting ratios" OR "financial statement" and select Document text – FULLTEXT from the drop down suggestions on the right. Check Full text from Limit to below the second search box. You can further filter the results by using one or more filters on the left of the results page.
  • A good practice is to go under Company/Organization and select the company name from there too since it is very likely that more than one company will appear in results. Publication date and subject are also recommended filters.
  • Results tagged with GlobalData Company Profiles, Plunkett Corporate Benchmarking Reports, ICD Research Reports are good resources for financial ratios.

Gale Business: Insights

Search tips:

  • Search by name and select Company name in the Field section. Scroll down and select Companies from Content type.
  • Another option is to click on Browse all companies from the home page, then select Financial reports in the search options at the top. Type the name of your desired company in the search box.

Key Business Ratios

Search tips:

  • Start from the Ratios tab to access ratios by SIC or NAICS code or line of business. You can filter by company type or year.
  • Ratios are divided into 3 categories – solvency, efficiency, profitability; switch from one to the other by clicking on the 3 tabs located at the top of the page.

Mergent Online

Search tips:

  • Get company profile page from basic or advanced search. Click on Company financial tab (green ribbon) and choose Ratios. Some information goes back many years.
  • One can also produce a list of companies that match certain criteria linked to their financial performance. From Advanced search, continue to the Ratios tab (green ribbon) where you will be able to choose the desired ratio(s). Input values can be less than, less than or equal, greater than, greater than or equal and equal to exact numerical values of your choice. Once submitted, your request will generate a list that can  be saved or viewed.

Nexis Uni

Search tips:

  • Search by company name by selecting Companies under All Content Types. You can make further selections, or simply hit the search button.
  • From Menu, choose company dossier. Do a name search. Once on the profile page, select Financial Overview from the menu on the left. In Ratio analysis data is available by quarter.

Value Line

Search tips:

  • Search company by name or ticker then click quote. Ratios can be found in more than one section, including valuation and Financial strength grate rating. If available, reports in the Value line PDF Reports section also provide ratios.

WRDS - Wharton Research Data Services

Search tips:

  • Analytics – Financial ratios – Firm level. Provides over 70 pre-calculated financial ratios for all U.S. companies across eight different categories (Valuation, Liquidity, Profitability, and etc). Once on the Financial Ratios Suite by WRDS page, choose the Financial Ratios option (not the option that says “with IBES subscription).
