eBook

A common abbreviation for electronic book. A digital, searchable version of a book that is intended to be viewed on an electronic device, such as an eReader, computer, or smartphone. The Alvin Sherman Library has a number of eBooks available through the Library Catalog and eBook Collection.

Edition

A specific form or version of a published work.

Editor

1. A person who prepares works of others for publication.  

2. A person who is primarily responsible for a periodical publication, such as a newspaper, magazine, or journal.

eJournal

A common abbreviation for electronic journal. A digital, searchable version of a journal that is intended to be viewed on an electronic device, such as computer or smartphone. The Alvin Sherman Library has a number of eJournals available through Online Databases.

Embargo

A period of time during which the full-text of a journal article is not available online.

Encryption

The process of encoding data so that it can only be read by authorized parties.

Encyclopedia (or Encyclopaedia)

A source of general information. Encyclopedias can be general or subject specific.

Endnotes

Statements explaining select text, assertions, or sources of quoted material found at the end of a written work.

Essay

A written composition analyzing or interpreting a particular subject.

Assessing a an information source.
