Write Better

During your time here at Nova Southeastern University, you will be constantly writing.  Whether it is something small like an email or it is a grandiose manuscript like your thesis, having proper writing technique is an important way to communicate your professionalism and showcase your research.  Good writing skills come with lots of practice and with good help.

Grammarly

Grammarly is a writing tool that uses AI-technology to discover flaws in your writing.  It will not only look for spelling and grammatical errors, but it checks the style and voice you want to write in, looks for signs of plagiarism, and suggests elevated word usage and sentence structure.

Grammarly has 3 available options (all free):

  • Added as a browser extension to help detect grammar errors when writing online
  • MS Word and Outlook plugin (PC only!) for writing in both these applications
  • The downloadable app or online version of Grammarly that you can drop files into.

The free version of Grammarly does a much better job than the normal MS Word spell/grammar check by:

  • Checking definitions and synonyms
  • Covering 150+ different spelling and rule checks
  • Writing statistics sent to email

The premium version gives you access to all of the above plus:

  • 100 more spelling and rule checks
  • Vocabulary enhancements
  • Genre writing style suggestions
  • Plagiarism checker

Cost of Premium:

  • 1 Month: $30
  • Quarterly: $20/month
  • Annually: $12/month
