This course is an introduction to concepts encountered in abstract mathematics that are common to most fields in mathematics. Topics covered include: logic, set theory, functions, relations, cardinality, mathematical induction, algebraic structures and the real number system. Optional topics may be included based upon the discretion of the instructor. There will be an emphasis in writing formal mathematical proofs.

Introduction to Advanced Mathematics - MATH 2500

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of the rigorous language of mathematics.
  2. Ability to prove theorems in the topics of study.
  3. Have a working knowledge in topics common to most mathematical fields: logic, set theory, functions, relations, mathematical induction, and algebraic structures.
