The subject guide to Digital Humanities provides information on resources for students and faculty related to the creation and development of digital humanities projects, assignments, as well as, associated tools and tutorials.

What is Digital Humanities?

Digital Humanities is a collaborative and interdisciplinary field, comprised of a broad range of scholarly activities that apply technologies to humanities research and at the same time expands traditional forms of scholarly communication. Digital Humanities (DH) is a field that intersects Information and Communication Technology (ICT), or computer technology, with the traditional study of human experiences and expressions.  This can include:

  • The preservation and sharing of collections that are otherwise difficult to access (e.g., the creation of digital editions, archives, maps, visualizations and exhibitions, often through collaboration between faculty, students, librarians, technologists and others).
     
  • The fostering of new creative expression by using digital media (e.g., social media, human-computer interaction, and cultural informatics).
     
  • The use, analysis and/or creation of digital tools for research or in the classroom.

The Center for Applied Humanities

Learn more about the study and application of digital humanities at the Nova Southeastern University Center for Applied Humanities. 

The Center is dedicated to engaging the wider South Florida community by partnering with community organizations and participating in local cultural initiatives that highlight and advance the humanities. The Center for Applied Humanities also serves as a teaching and learning resource for both students and scholars at NSU and elsewhere by hosting workshops, conferences, and other professional development and pedagogical/training opportunities.
