  • SC.K.L.14.3 Observe plants and animals, describe how they are alike and how they are different in the way they look and in the things they do.
  • SC.1.L.14.2 Identify the major parts of plants, including stem, roots, leaves, and flowers.
  • SC.1.L.17.1 Through observation, recognize that all plants and animals, including humans, need the basic necessities of air, water, food, and space.
  • SC.2.L.16.1 Observe and describe major stages in the life cycles of plants and animals, including beans and butterflies.

Key Vocabulary

  • branch: a part of a plant that grows out from the trunk or stem.
  • flower: a blossom on a plant.
  • leaf: the thin, flat, green part of a plant that grows on a stem or from roots.
  • root: the part of a plant that grows down into the ground.
  • seed: the hard part of a plant, usually found at the center, from which another plant like the first can grow
  • trunk: the stem of a tree, from which the roots and branches grow.
