Marine Biology Resource Guide: Volunteering

Each year the Broward County Waterway Cleanup attracts thousands of volunteers from many neighborhoods and communities throughout the county. People of all ages come out in their boats, kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, and by foot along the shores to clean all kinds of debris from the waterways.

The Coral Restoration Foundation™ is the largest coral reef restoration organization in the world. They were founded in response to the wide-spread loss of the dominant coral species on the Florida Reef Tract.

​​Volunteers are important to parks, especially when it comes to helping out the Broward County nature centers, natural areas, and other parks clear out the trash and invasive plants that continually plague our environment. EcoAction Days are volunteer workdays scheduled throughout the Broward County system.

The are many exciting and diverse opportunities to volunteer with Florida State Parks as an individual volunteer. You might greet visitors, conduct tours, help with special events, remove exotic plants, and assist with keeping our beaches, waterways and trails clean and beautiful for visitors to enjoy all year long.

By contributing to Project Baseline, you are joining a global team of concerned and invested citizens who share underwater observations, normally inaccessible to the public, with divers and non-divers alike. They welcome volunteer participation from all divers whether you’re an advanced technical diver, a beginning scuba diver, a free diver, or a snorkeler.

Reef Relief is a nonprofit membership organization dedicated to improving and protecting our coral reef ecosystem. By volunteering, you can help out at events or in daily program support.

Sea Turtle Adventures offers various volunteering opportunities and provides first-hand experience with marine conservation.

Volunteer with S.T.O.P. to help rescue, recover, and release disoriented sea turtle hatchlings, as well as collect data and educate the general public.
