Step 1: Compatibility with Word Processor Software

EndNote 2025 Compatibility and System Requirements

Compatibility: Check your computer systems to see if they are ready to install EndNote. 

Notes:

  • If you have a Chromebook you will only be able to use the EndNote Online (Basic) account.
  • You must have administrative rights on the computer to install software and update it.

If your computer is ready, and you have memory available on the machine, install EndNote from NSU (see step 2a [Windows] or 2b [Mac] on this guide) and then update the software.

 

Additional updates exist for new styles, filters, paper templates, etc.

IMPORTANT: You must install the EndNote application on your computer's hard drive and NOT in OneDrive, iCloud, or any other cloud storage! This can corrupt the software and might result in your library being lost. Be sure location is set to Desktop, Documents, or another location on your hard drive (and it is not automatically syncing to OneDrive or any other cloud-based storage).
