Step 2: Downloading & Installing EndNote: Mac

READ FIRST: Make sure you install the EndNote application on your computer's hard drive and NOT in OneDrive, iCloud, or any other cloud storage! This can corrupt the software and might result in your library being lost. Be sure location is set to Desktop, Documents, or another location on your hard drive (and it is not automatically syncing to OneDrive or any other cloud-based storage).

 

Mac Installation:

  • Step 1: Close all Microsoft applications on your computer.
  • Step 2: Always use Firefox or Chrome with EndNote NOT Safari!
  • Step 3: Click here to download EndNote if you are on campus. Click on EndNote 2025 for Mac. 
    • If using an NSU computer, you should download EndNote from the NSU App Store.
    • If you are OFF CAMPUS, please use this link to access the download file:
  • Step 4: Log in with your NSU user name and password when prompted.
  • Step 5: Click on Save to download EndNote to your computer
  • Step 6: Double-click on the Endnote.dmg file to mount it      
     
  • Step 7: When the installer window appears, click on the Endnote Icon to install.  
  • Step 8: Click Open on the pop-up installation notification.

  • Step 9: Click Install.
  • Step 10: Follow instructions for installation.  Click Next on Welcome Screen and Next on Read Me Screen.
  • Step 11: If Updates have rolled out, you will need to install the updates as well.  This is checked on the screen after the "Read Me" screen in the Installer.  Click Download and Install and follow the prompts.

Instructions for Adding Additional Connections on Macs

Important Note on Additional Connections for Macs:

The installation process for Macs differs slightly from that of PCs.  Macs add Additional Connections after the installation process has completed, not during the installation process.  

On a Mac, once your EndNote library is open, go to EndNote 2025 at the top of your screen and select Customizer. 

Next,  check the boxes for the things you want installed directly on your computer.  Add: Additional Connections, Import Filters, and Output Styles.

 

If you do not follow these steps, you will likely have issues when you try to update your Journals Term List.
