EndNote

Online Search in EndNote

You can search a number of online resources from within EndNote.

  • In the left side menu pane, you might already have some resources such as PubMed or Web of Science saved in the group set Online Search.
  • If the resource you wish to search is displayed, click on it.
  • To see other resources to search, click on more… at the bottom of your Online Search group. Alternatively go to the Tools menu and select Online Search to select from a list of databases/catalogues.
  • Not all databases will work, please see the note at the bottom of this page for more details.

  1. When you select an online resource to carry out a search, the Search panel will be automatically displayed in the upper middle section of your screen.
  2. Enter your search criteria and then click on Search.
  3. The results retrieved will be displayed.
  4. Select the references you want to add to your library by checking the box to the left side of the reference.
  5. Then click the plus icon above the search results to add the selected online records to your local library.
  6. They will now appear in the Recently Added group and All References.

Please note, many of the resources available to search from within EndNote require authentication, which is not possible to set up via NSU's authentication routes. You should always be able to search PubMed, Jisc Library Hub and other library catalogs as they are freely available resources. You will be able to search Web of Science when accessing EndNote on a computer connected directly to the NSU network, but not when connected remotely or from your own home personal computer.
