EndNote

Editing Citations

  • Always use the Edit & Manage Citation(s) tool in the EndNote tab in Word to make changes including adding page numbers or deleting.
  • Never manually change an EndNote reference in your document.Citations inserted from EndNote have code in the background. Manually making changes can corrupt the code and cause issues with your document.

  1. Place your cursor at the In-Text citation that you want to edit  or remove
  2. From the EndNote Toolbar in Word, click on Edit & Manage Citation(s)

Delete the In-Text Citation

Note:

  • If this is the only time this reference is cited in the paper, EndNote will automatically remove it from the bibliography when you delete the In-Text
  • If this reference continues to be cited somewhere else in your paper, EndNote will keep the reference in the bibliography.

Edit In-Text Citations

Within the Edit & Manage pop up window

  • Options to add pages, suffix, or prefix
  • Options to change the formatting (placement of authors & years)

Tip: If there is a mistake with a name (misspelling, etc.) do not make the adjustment in Word.  Go back to EndNote and correct the problem.

Tip: For AMA use the Suffix field to add a page number
