Basic Look at Video Editing

A basic look at the video editing applications iMovie & Adobe Premiere Rush

Creating Your Movie

Opening up iMovie will give you a screen to Create a New Project. Once you click Create New you will be given the options of creating a Movie or Trailer. This guide will go through the basics in iMovie as if creating a Movie.

*Note: Editing on a Mac gives different options than editing on an iOS device. You cannot sync your projects through iMovie as you would through Adobe Premiere Rush.

Importing Media

Once you start a new project the next part will bring you to importing your media. On a smart device you have the option from the Create page to Import a Project or File at the top right. The button looks like a circle with three dots inside. If you decide to start from scratch click the middle Import Media button, on a Mac, a screen will pop up that selects media from your device. On an iOS device it will automatically bring you to the screen to choose your files. The yellow boxes show where in your device the files are coming from and the blue box shows where they are being imported to. The files show up as a list and you have the option to select the individual files or click where the green box highlights, Import All.

Exporting

To Export on Mac there is more than one place you can choose from. The top right, the File tab on the top left, or in the options menu on the Projects screen. On an iOS device you must click the Done button at the top of the screen and then the share button at the bottom. It will bring up the menu with all the options on how and where you can share your project.
