Basic Look at Video Editing

A basic look at the video editing applications iMovie & Adobe Premiere Rush

File Options

Once a project has started and the files are loaded you will be able to see them in the timeline. Each clip can be edited individually by right clicking on it, for a tablet or phone just tap the clip. This gives the opportunity to Delete the clip from the timeline, Duplicate it, Expand the audio to see it, or Separate the audio from the clip. These options are also available in the panel on the left on the bottom of the screen, as marked in the image below. If you need to add an audio file, or any other file, you can click on the blue plus sign on the top of the left panel. Rush gives the option of uploading from your own media, creating your own, or using free media they provide.

Separating Audio

Most likely you will want to separate the audio from the clip. This will be because you will either want to manipulate the volume of the audio, or even delete the audio completely to add in a different one. To do this right click and click separate audio. You will then see the audio track of that clip or file on the bottom of it in green. You can now manipulate as you like.

Audio Options

The Audio tab panel on the right gives you more abilities to be able to customize your audio settings. Browse allows you to choose audio clips that Adobe has free to use. Just click and drag to your timeline. The Basic section allows the audio clip volume be adjusted or muted. In the Advanced section it will automatically detect what type of audio the clip has and adjust accordingly. You may go in and change it from there. By checking the auto volume box it will keep all media near the same volume throughout your project. The auto duck box will turn down music or other noises if voices are present in the audio clip.
