What is prompting?
Prompting is the act of asking questions of the AI chatbot in such a way that you get high-quality responses. There are different types of prompts:
1. Verbal Cues: Using words to guide the AI.
2. Visual Cues: Using images to prompt a response.
3. Demonstration or Modeling: Showing an example to guide the AI's response.
Below is an example of verbal cues. It's broken down to guide you on effectively creating a prompt.
Who? In some cases, you may ask the chatbot to play a role. For example, "You are a study coach helping a college student prepare for finals exams."
What? What do you want the chatbot to do? For example, "Suggest effective study techniques and time management strategies."
Why? You could include why, if appropriate, to demonstrate the purpose of the task or explain what you're trying to achieve.
Where? This includes necessary background or any limitations. For example, "The student has a part-time job and limited study time. Include tips for staying focused and reducing stress."
Here is the complete prompt:
"You are a study coach helping a college student prepare for final exams. Suggest effective study techniques and time management strategies for a student who has a part-time job and limited study time. Include tips for staying focused and reducing stress."
