Business Analysis Frameworks: SWOT, PESTLE, Five Forces

Getting started

These analyses can be available as standalone reports or as sections in industry reports. Published analyses are available for individual companies as well as entire industries (or sectors).

When ready-made, already published analyses are not available, sections of industry and analyst reports can be used to compile information in one report.

  • SWOT stands for strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. A SWOT analysis highlights internal factors (strengths and weaknesses) and external factors (opportunities and threats) and how they are likely to impact a company, a product or an industry.
  • PESTLE is an acronym that stands for Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Legal and Environmental factors.
  • Five Forces - Harvard professor Michael E. Porter suggested that a company’s performance is influenced by the following five factors: threat of new entrants, threat of substitutes, rivalry among existing competitors, bargaining power of suppliers, bargaining power of buyers.
