The scanner works best with objects that have the following characteristics:
- Opaque
The scanner will not pick up transparent surfaces.
- TO SCAN: Dust the outside of the surface with baby powder.
- Matte
Shiny or reflective objects will skew the scan.
- TO SCAN: Dust the outside of the surface with baby powder.
- Uniform brightness
The scanner prefers brighter objects but can scan darker objects with the right preparation or settings. A mixture of light and dark will complicate the scan.
- TO SCAN: Dust the outside of the surface with baby powder.
- Smooth texture
Objects with high texture (fur, hair, etc.) will be difficult to scan.
- TO SCAN: Note that you may not get precise results. Multiple scans from many angles may be necessary.
- Solid construction (no deep holes, gaps, lattice design, etc.)
The scanner works by projecting light on an object, so especially intricate and hollow items will be difficult to scan.
- TO SCAN: Results may be only at the surface level. Multiple scans from many angles may be necessary.
- Maximum weight 5 kg / 11 lbs
Heavier weights may damage the scanner turntable.
- TO SCAN: Use of automatic turntable discouraged; switch to Fixed Scan. Prop up object with heavy objects next to scanner. Multiple scans from many angles may be necessary.
- Minimum size 30mm x 30mm x 30mm / 1.2" x 1.2" x 1.2"
Objects that are too small may not be properly scanned.
- TO SCAN: Scan will be difficult. Attempt to reduce additional complicating factors. Multiple scans from many angles may be necessary.
- Maximum size 250mm x 250mm x 250mm / 9.8" x 9.8" x 9.8"
Objects that are too large will not fit on the turntable.
- TO SCAN: Use of automatic turntable discouraged; switch to Fixed Scan. Prop up object with heavy objects next to scanner. Multiple scans from many angles may be necessary.
