Oceanographic Campus Library 3D Scanner

A guide to the use and best practices of the OCL's 3D scanner.

Scanner Use Policies

The EinScan-SE Scanner can be used in the Oceanographic Campus Library (OCL) or borrowed and used in a GHOC lab.  The scanner and associated computer are on a wheeled cart.

The scanner is checked out on your NSU Library account and is subject to the following borrowing agreements:

  • The scanner may be checked out only to Ocean students, faculty, and staff.
  • The scanner may be borrowed for a 24 hour period.
  • The scanner may not leave the COE building.  If you are using it within a lab you may be required to fill a form provided by the Halmos COE Lab Assistant.
  • No remote renewals allowed- the scanner must be brought to an OCL employee, checked in, and then checked out if you wish to use it for more than 24 hours at a time.
  • This computer is a public workstation.  Save your data and remove it from the workstation before return.  The OCL is not responsible for data left on the computer and will clear any data left by the user nightly.

  • Borrowers agree to use the 3D scanner for only lawful purposes.  Borrowers will not be permitted to use the Oceanographic Campus Library's 3D scanner to scan material that is:
    • Prohibited by local, state, or federal law
    • Unsafe, harmful, dangerous or poses an immediate threat to the well-being of others.
    • Obscene or otherwise inappropriate for the Library environment.
    • In violation of another's intellectual property rights.  The scanner can not be used to reproduce material that is subject to copyright, patent or trademark protection.  It is encouraged that the borrower abide by principles of the Fair Use Act when using the 3D scanner.

  • Borrowers agree to pay repair and shipping costs for damaged equipment.
