If the reference cannot be imported from a database, for example a website or book, then the information can be manually added into EndNote.
Manually Adding a New Reference
1. On the EndNote toolbar, select References > New Reference, or Ctrl+N (Windows) Cmd+N (Mac), or New Reference button
2. Select the Reference Type from the drop-down menu at the top (the default type is journal article)
3. Use the mouse or Tab to select the desired fields and enter the appropriate information
4. Hot tip! You can input a DOI into a new reference and use the Find Reference Updates feature to fill in the rest of the information for you. (Make sure you have turned on your Import Filter Manager before trying this - directions on how to do this can be found in Getting Started - Step 5)
